Over the past years, the couple has visited many sacred sites across the U.K., drawn to the sites’ palpable energy and mystery. The couple’s series, Sacred Sites, explores the different energies produced by these phenomena and aims to allow others to experience these energies through their art. The creative process behind the work is singular, emphasizing Mai and Peter’s collaborative methods. Individually, Mai and Peter paint their separate impression of the distinct site. The artists then put each of their individual paintings together to create one large-scale work. The paintings work together, generating an energy that echoes the mysterious feeling that these sites radiate when seen in person.
These paintings are now a permanent installation in their barn in New Jersey (private view by appointment), which has played host to several East Coast artists over the years. Within the context of the barn, the sites from England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland have the ability to interact inside one distinct space. The resulting experience is powerful.
